A note from the founder
I wanted a deodorant I couldn’t smell on my shirt.
Someone would walk past me, and I could tell what brand of deodorant they were wearing. I knew the scent because I’d worn it myself. Sometimes I could still smell it on my shirt after washing it.
I started wearing deodorant in high school. I liked working out and hiking, and I wanted something I could count on after getting sweaty. Over the years, I tried gels, sticks, and sprays, from a $3 stick to a $60 bottle. Some left marks on my clothes. Others made my skin red and itchy, or had me reaching for the bottle again by midafternoon.
By college, I knew what I wanted to make. It had to help me control odor, have no added fragrance, and fit easily into the bag I took everywhere.
I started with pearl powder
Pearl powder was familiar to me through my Asian background. I knew it from traditional Asian medicine and had seen it used in beauty products and face masks. I’d also learned about plants people used for their soothing qualities. When I started thinking about making my own deodorant, those were the ingredients and traditions I was curious to learn more about.
A few friends who knew about plants and their uses helped me research and develop the formula. We started with pearl powder and thought carefully about what each ingredient would contribute. I wanted to keep the formula simple enough to explain why everything was there.
I started using the powder in college. Seven years later, I was still using it. That formula became MIRAXIL.
The bottle I still pack
I kept it as a powder because I liked how it fit into my routine. I can tip a little onto clean fingertips and apply it without pressing the bottle against my skin. It slips into my gym bag, and when I pack for a trip, I barely have to think about making room for it.
I still love a good fragrance. On the days I wear one, I want to smell the one I chose. That was one of the reasons I made MIRAXIL, and it’s still one of the reasons I reach for it.
